No son! Wrong one! Wrong one! - October 30, 2008 10:23 AM
This is a disturbing development. I'm not sure how I feel about this....
A Prime Collection update - July 9, 2008 6:49 PM
It's been a while since I updated my Prime collection on Flickr; it's been since before Botcon, in fact. I've added eight to the collection since then, starting with: Music Label Convoy, G1 Colored Version I picked this one up...
A new avatar - May 1, 2008 10:20 AM
So yesterday, I made up a new background for my Twitter page, since I don't really use that old toy robot from iStockPhoto for anything anymore. The new background image is one of Classics Optimus Prime over a blurred Autobot...
Armada/Micron Legend Supercon Optimus Prime - March 25, 2008 9:43 AM
Transformers: Armada, for the most part, sucked. It was an interesting experiment; the Mini-cons were a neat idea, and I'm glad they've been carried over into subsequent lines. But all of the fiction, cartoons and comics, made me wince...
- ⇒ Premium Movie Leader Optimus Prime (link from Mar 21, 2008)
A short video showing the modifications we'll see in the upcoming "premium" Optimus Prime figure. Looks like that sword arm is extra-sharp, which is absolutely crazy for a Hasbro toy. It also looks like it's got a remolded head, and makes the classic G1 transformation sound when you activate the automorph feature.
Generation One Optimus Prime - March 7, 2008 2:55 PM
I've realized that I can't do a review series of Optimus Prime figures without first taking a look at the original. When I speak of 'classic Optimus design elements,' it'd be nice to have something to link to. Of course,...
Movie Voyager Optimus Prime - February 21, 2008 11:57 AM
Of the myriad versions of Optimus Prime to be released in conjunction with the 2007 Transformers movie, this one is simply the best. Granted, it isn't the most accurate to the film (the Leader-class figure can claim that distinction), but...
Optimus Prime: A Commentary Series - February 19, 2008 12:34 PM
“The wisdom of the ages — it’s lost.” “No, not lost. We’re all a little wiser now.” “But the matrix is empty!” “It’s up to all of us to fill it again, with the wisdom we accumulate from this...
Star Convoy (Reissue) - February 12, 2008 2:30 PM
Star Convoy was one of the rarer Japanese pieces, until Takara released a reissue of it in 2005. It's one of the few larger-scale toys released in Takara's Battlestars: The Return of Convoy line, as the majority of the figures...
- ⇒ Botcon "Shattered Glass" Optimus Prime revealed (link from Feb 12, 2008)
I'm glad I didn't pay two hundred someodd dollars for this Optimus Prime repaint. I collect the evil Optimus figures as well as the regular ones, but this is one I won't need for my collection. Here's why: Optimus Prime is often depicted with the broken windows and battle damage, which he's received from protecting the innocent, etc. An evil, mirror-image Optimus Prime would never wear such scars; he'd be immaculate at all times, just like Megatron. Let's think these concepts through, folks.
- ⇒ G1 Optimus finally gets a new head (link from Jan 29, 2008)
They've done about a hundred reissues of the original Optimus Prime figure in the last few years, between Japan and the US. But finally, they're releasing a version with a new head sculpt that's much closer to the classic "Optimus Prime" look than the head sculpt from the original toy. That's right. Look at that sentence. It'd funny how much ol' Prime has evolved from that original Convoy toy, isn't it?
It's too bad that this remold comes on the iPod Player Prime (which is even a reissue of a previous Music Label Convoy figure), which is gonna run more ($140) than a standard reissue, else I'd snatch it up. Because you can never have too many versions of the same damn figure.
- ⇒ Wal-Mart Exclusive Robot Heroes Decepticon Sneak Attack (link from Jun 8, 2007)
No wonder I can't find it - it's apparently an online exclusive! You'd think if they're only going to sell it online, they'd at least spell the name of the item correctly.
- ⇒ That's tricky: A Leader for the Ages Optimus Prime (link from Jun 7, 2007)
This is just tricky. The promotional text on the Hasbro page reads:
This special two-pack contains G1-inspired OPTIMUS PRIME—perfect for the Dad who played with OPTIMUS PRIME as a child. The kid today can enjoy the new movie version of OPTIMUS PRIME.
But the box art doesn't say anything about "G1-inspired"; the labels under the figures read '2007 Optimus Prime' and '1984 Optimus Prime'. But it's not Prime from 1984, it's instead the most horrible G1 style Prime to be released in years, the one from the Classics two-pack with tank Megatron. I can imagine guys my age, walking through the toy aisle with their kids, thinking to themselves, "Damn, I remember that guy being so much cooler."
- ⇒ Custom 'Hearts of Steel' Optimus Prime on eBay (link from Jun 6, 2007)
Holy frijoles. Did you read the 'Hearts of Steel' miniseries? It was okay, but Prime never really appeared in it. Looking at this, I wish he had.
Color scheme - Star Convoy - May 15, 2006 9:44 PM
This is Star Convoy from Takara's SCF Act 8, with Unsharp Mask and Poster Edges filters applied in Photoshop. Download the .cs file...
THS 02 - Hybrid Style Convoy - May 14, 2006 9:32 PM
Tiny is the best word to describe this Optimus. The figure stands just over four inches tall, meaning it barely comes up to the original Optimus' waist, and is just a hair taller than the PVC figures. Of course,...
