Brief spoilerly Doctor Who statement

I don't believe for a second that the Doctor will actually regenerate in the finale (what with all the emphasis the episode gave to his hand in the jar and then his hand at the beginning of the regeneration), but if they did replace David Tennant with a new actor as the 11th Doctor, it'd be the best kept secret since the invention of the Internet.

Remind me, how did the hand in the jar come about?

Christmas Invasion, Doctor's hand got cut off in a sword fight high above the city (he was still "pliable" post regeneration and grew it back). The hand fell to earth, where Captain Jack snatched it up as a rather gruesome "Doctor Detector" (seen in S3 finale 3-parter).

I don't know man...consider:

Original Series isn't coming back till 2010

Tennant is confirmed to star in Doctor Who stuff UNTIL 2010...

There are gonna be Doctor Who specials between the finale of this season and the beginning of the fifth HOWEVER....those could occur in a time BEFORE the season 4 finale.

It's possible.

Andrew: The hand in the jar is the Doctor's hand that got cut off by the Sycorax leader in the Christmas Invasion. Captain Jack Harkness found the hand and put it in a case, as sort of a detector for when the Doctor showed up. Eventually Harkness found the Doctor and the Doctor took back the hand and has just been keeping it in the TARDIS.
