Interested in a side-project? Because I'd like to create a toy database.

I have a little bit of experience creating toy databases. I built the archive system for my old Dragonballtoys.com site from scratch, and adapted it for other sites. But what I'd really like to do is create a toy database site that is:

  1. extensible enough that it could encompass any and all toylines, both domestic and foreign
  2. completely user-editable, a la wiki
  3. xml-friendly, so we could create an API for using its information in other applications

These are just some initial thoughts, based on my thought that when I'm importing my toy collection into the upcoming Delicious Library 2, I'm going to have to enter a lot of information from scratch, because it won't be available through Amazon.com.

Is anyone interested in taking up this project with me? I have web design and PHP experience (among other things), but I've never worked on creating an API from scratch, nor have I ever embarked on such an ambitious project for which I wasn't being paid directly. If you are, I'd love to discuss what I have in mind, and get your input, so leave a comment.

Also, I guess I should add that if there's already such a thing out there, I'd really like to know about it.

Ok, I'm completely exhausted and I may not be in my right mind, but I am extremely interested in getting on board on this project.

It sounds like it will also overlap with my last class as an undergrad, as well as one of my first classes in my masters program.

Let's do this!!
