General Toyfair Roundup

There just doesn't seem to be a lot of new stuff that I give a crap about at the New York Toy Fair this year. Davros statueWe've already seem the majority of the items in solicitations. I already did a roundup of Transformers stuff from the show, but other than that, here are the things that interest me.

Mattel DC Universe Infinite Heroes

Okay, I'm so digging a line of 3 ¾" DC characters. I've always loved that scale (that's Star Wars & G.I. Joe size), and even better, I love that price point. According to TNI, the figures on display were mock-ups designed to give a feel for the line, and that the final line will "have civilians, army builders, box sets and just about every other character in the DCU."

Ame-Comi Statue: Donna Troy

I don't much like the Ame-Comi line, which is essentially anime-cheesecake of DCU women. But the Donna Troy statue isn't bad. It looks like someone likes the line, though, because there are apparently six new figures being added to the lineup this year.

Doctor Who Mini-Mates & American Distribution?

Is Underground Toys going to be the North American distributor for Character Options Doctor Who toys? It sure looks that way from the gallery. Since ASM doesn't have a writeup available yet, it's hard to say. But those Doctor Who MiniMates designs are certainly new. I want an army of MiniMate Cybermen.

Doctor Who character statues from Weta

Featured at the Dark Horse booth, Weta is releasing some Doctor Who character statues, including The Master, a Dalek, and Davos & the Fourth Doctor.

Halo items from Corgi International

Warning: do not point sword at living things. I love these little weapon replicas, I wonder what scale they are? For that matter, what scale is this Master Chief?

It's amazing how different each site's coverage of the show is. From experience, I can tell you how frustrating it is to see another site get the big scoop, because the people you were just talking to put something out for display right after you left. But this is a buyer's show, not a press show, no matter what you've been told. The sites covering it, or the mainstream media, are not the primary audience. The primary audience is Wal-Mart, and after Wal-Mart, every other toy outlet in America.

Underground is already the distributor in the US. All of my Character Options toys have a sticker on the back which says "Imported by Underground Toys, Poway, CA"

And wow, I wonder what scale that Davros and Doc#4 statue is. That's great!

BTW, Evebird told me they are selling Who toys at TRU now, but I haven't been there to confirm.

I didn't know that, I just thought everyone was importing them through Diamond or something. Good to know.

And Toys R Us? I was just there last week! I need to look more closely if they're going to be carrying my Doctor fix!

That's good coverage by figures.com. I've been perusing the reports from ASM for the last two days (http://toyfair08.asmzine.com). It's a lot of information to go through. ;)
